Tell us a little about yourself!
One of my biggest hobbies is raising money for Riley Hospital for Children through a non-profit organization called Riley Dance Marathon.
Knowing this, I am a college student who got kicked off campus and we can no longer do peer-to-peer fundraising for our organization, which is the biggest on campus. This is heavily affecting the hospital and our organization as a whole.
Tell us about your #MakeWaves project.
In order to give back to my community, and more specifically children's hospitals, I want to continue to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children.
Currently the hospital is doing a "Riley Relief Fund" which is raising money for families that are affected by the current pandemic who have children at Riley Hospital. This fund specifically raises money for families that need help with providing food and transportation for their family.
In addition, this fund helps families pay for their medical bills if they are currently unemployed or out of work because of COVID-19. So, I am writing this today so that I can hopefully give hope to the families who are being heavily affected by the current pandemic.
What inspired your project and what impact would you like to make?
I am hoping to make an impact on Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. This impact will also benefit all Children Miracle Network Hospitals across the nation.
This project is inspired by the fact the my brother was taken to Riley Hospital for Children when he was younger and if were not for the financial and medical assistance of the hospital my brother would not be alive today.
So, I hope that I can do whatever possible in order to help families like mine. I am also inspired to do this community project because the kids at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals can not wait any longer, they are currently experiencing underfunding and they need help now.
If I get a community fund for this project it will go directly to the Riley Relief Fund. The money raised will also help an organization that I am vice president of at DePauw University.
This non-profit organization is called DePauw Riley Dance Marathon (DPUDM) and our money goes specifically towards paediatric cancer research.
