Tell us a little about yourself
I’m a Muay Thai and boxing coach. My partner and I run a martial arts program out of our gym in Richmond. Since the closure due to Covid-19, we’ve been running online zoom classes to stay connected with our members and community. I also recently launched my own brand of fight accessories and apparel called Fight Cartel.
Tell us about your #MakeWaves projectI’ve been making fabric masks at home and giving them away at no charge to people who need them. I’m using the profits of my online business to pay for the fabric and materials. I offer free non contact pick up, free delivery within Richmond, and cover the costs of shipping via Canada post.
My priority for orders are for people at high risk. But I make them for anyone who needs it. My boyfriends parents are considered high risk and when they couldn’t find any masks to purchase, I offered to make them some.
Who inspired you?
Then I realized that there were probably more people facing the same issues. So I purchased a bunch of materials and posted on social media that I was offering free masks for anyone who needed it.
I make masks for both kids and adults. I sew about 8-10 hours a day, and have made and donated over 150 masks to date. Material costs are quite expensive, so any sort of funding helps tremendously.
